Skin is not simply a flat sheet, but is made up of different layers. The top most layer of the skin is though microscopically thin it is really tough. This top most layer continuously goes through a wear and tear cycle and thus is replaced by new skin cells.

This layer plays an important role to prevent the excessive moisture loss from the body. The moisture content is essential for giving the attractive appearance to the skin. The inner layers contain the units that provide elasticity and strength to the skin. The deeper layers are the house of sweat glands.

Some parts of the skin have developed from the same tissues which are the major constituent of brain. This part is directly linked to the brain with nerves. Skin is an important station of outer world.  It is the closest contact a person has with the outer world. We are able to feel the change in temperature and pain because of skin.

The lips are the most sensitive body organ and are also the part of skin
